WhatsApp has become one of the most essential apps on smartphones, consistently ranking among the top downloads on Google Play and the App Store. It’s one of the first apps most people install when they get a new phone, and it’s likely responsible for most of the notifications you receive daily.

Since its launch nearly a decade ago, WhatsApp has evolved significantly, now supporting file transfers, voice, and video calls as core features. With its ease of use, it has outshined traditional SMS, offering a smoother experience than Hangouts and a simpler interface than Skype, making it the go-to communication tool for millions worldwide. Even for daily users, WhatsApp is packed with features that are not always well-known. Here are some of the best tips to help you make the most out of the app:

1. Avoid the Blue Ticks

WhatsApp’s tick system shows when your message has been delivered (one grey tick), received (two grey ticks), and read (two blue ticks). However, if you prefer to keep things private, you can avoid the blue ticks from showing up on your friend’s screen.

One method is to disable read receipts entirely. Head to Settings > Account > Privacy > Read Receipts and uncheck the box. Keep in mind, though, that disabling this feature will also prevent you from seeing when others have read your messages.

For a more temporary solution, you can read messages without triggering blue ticks by enabling Aeroplane Mode before opening WhatsApp. Just ensure you close the app before turning Aeroplane Mode off.

2. Check Who’s Seen Your Messages

Group chats can be chaotic, and sometimes it’s hard to tell who’s read your messages. If you’ve sent a message and received no replies, you can check the status by long-pressing the message and selecting the Information option on Android, or swiping left to right on iOS. This will show who has seen the message and at what time.

3. Hide Your ‘Last Seen’ Time

WhatsApp’s ‘last seen’ feature shows when you were last active on the app, which can sometimes create unnecessary social pressure. You can hide this information by going to Settings > Account > Privacy > Last Seen and selecting Nobody. Note that by doing this, you won’t be able to see others’ ‘last seen’ statuses either.

4. Mute Group Chats

Group conversations can become overwhelming, especially when they’re active non-stop. To silence these notifications, Android users can tap the Menu button in a group chat and select Mute. iPhone users can find the mute option in the Group Info section of the chat.

5. Control Data Usage

WhatsApp can consume significant amounts of data, especially if you’re in active groups that share a lot of media files. To manage this, go to Settings > Data Usage. From there, you can limit which types of media (photos, videos, audio) download automatically when on a mobile connection. You can also reduce the data used during WhatsApp calls by enabling Low Data Usage in the same menu. For more information please visit Daman Game.

By mastering these simple tips and shortcuts, you can streamline your WhatsApp experience, control your privacy, and even save data usage on the go.
